Tinubu appoints Abba Aliyu as managing director of Rural Electrification Agency

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), with effect from 23 January 2025.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Aliyu, who has been serving in an acting capacity since March 2024, brings over two decades of experience in energy and organisational development across Nigeria’s public and private sectors. His expertise spans the on-grid and off-grid power industries, as well as the water resources and transportation sectors.
Before his appointment, he held key leadership positions, including head of the project management unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project and general manager of corporate services, projects, and research at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET), where he also served as Deputy General Manager.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aliyu’s extensive experience will strengthen the REA’s mandate of delivering reliable electricity to rural communities, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and power.
The appointment is for an initial four-year term.
