Family accuses Court of declining request to produce Nnamdi Kanu
The family of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed dissatisfaction after a court reportedly declined an application seeking to compel authorities to produce him in court.
According to the family, their legal team had approached the court with a request for an order that Kanu be physically presented, arguing that his continued absence from proceedings raises concerns about his welfare and access to fair hearing. They alleged that despite the application, the court did not grant the order, leaving them worried about his condition in detention.
Kanu, who has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS), is facing terrorism-related charges. His family maintains that his health has deteriorated and that consistent court appearances are necessary to ensure transparency and adherence to his fundamental rights.
They called on the Federal Government and the judiciary to ensure that proper legal procedures are followed and to allow Kanu unfettered access to his legal team, insisting that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done.
Authorities have yet to respond to the family’s claims.
