2027: North-Central APC forum cautions party against replacing Shettima

The North-Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned against any move to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The forum said replacing Shettima could amount to a political miscalculation capable of weakening the party’s support base, particularly in the North. It urged the party leadership to retain the current ticket, noting that it played a key role in the APC’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group dismissed reports suggesting that the North-Central zone was pushing to produce the vice-presidential candidate in 2027. It clarified that the region was more focused on long-term political positioning rather than disrupting the existing arrangement.

The forum also cautioned against decisions driven by religious considerations, stressing that party unity and electoral strategy should take priority as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.

The warning comes amid growing speculation within the APC over possible changes to the party’s presidential ticket as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the next election cycle.
