CAF Elections: Amaju Pinnick supports ending language barriers for FIFA Council seats

A current member of the FIFA Council, Amaju Pinnick, has expressed his support for removing language-based voting groups in the upcoming CAF elections, saying it will help the best candidates represent Africa at FIFA.

The elections, which will take place on March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt, will see Pinnick among 10 candidates competing for one of six FIFA Council seats.

He is aiming for re-election to serve another four-year term after making a strong impact on behalf of Africa.

This year’s election will bring a major change: the removal of regional voting blocs, which have traditionally been based on language. The decision was made during the 46th CAF General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Pinnick believes this shift is crucial to create a fairer and more competitive process, allowing the most qualified individuals to take up positions, regardless of their ethnic or linguistic background.
