NUJ FCT council commemorates World Radio Day 2025

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has joined the global community in marking World Radio Day 2025, highlighting the medium’s critical role in public discourse, particularly on climate change.
In a statement issued by its Secretary, Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ FCT Council emphasised the enduring significance of radio in informing, educating, and uniting communities across Nigeria.
This year’s theme, “Radio and Climate Change,” underscores the medium’s ability to drive conversations on environmental sustainability and inspire action. Given radio’s widespread reach and trust among Nigerians, it remains a key platform for disseminating climate-related information and promoting eco-friendly practices.
The Council reaffirmed its unwavering support for radio professionals, recognising their commitment to delivering accurate and timely news.
“Radio broadcasters play a pivotal role in keeping the public informed and equipping them with the knowledge needed to address climate change,” Oyekunle stated. “Their dedication strengthens our communities and propels us towards a more sustainable future.”
As part of its advocacy, the NUJ FCT Council encouraged media practitioners to continue amplifying climate issues, sharing stories of resilience, and championing environmental solutions.
World Radio Day 2025 thus serves as both a celebration of radio’s impact and a renewed call to action for a more environmentally conscious society.
