FG reaffirms commitment to press freedom, accountability at Ministerial Briefing
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris (FNIPR), has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency, press freedom, and national development during the fifth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held at the National Press Centre, Abuja.
The session, attended by key government officials including the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, provided a platform for ministers to update Nigerians on their achievements and ongoing initiatives.
In his address, Idris emphasised that the briefing series, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, underscores the Tinubu Administration’s dedication to accountability and citizen engagement. “Each minister will have the opportunity to engage directly with Nigerians during this forum leading up to the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations,” he noted.
Commending his colleagues, he acknowledged Ambassador Tuggar’s proactive diplomacy in promoting Nigeria’s global image and Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s transformative reforms within the Interior Ministry, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister also used the occasion to laud the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as it marks its 70th anniversary, describing the milestone as a testament to the union’s steadfast commitment to press freedom and journalistic excellence. “This administration believes that a free and responsible press is essential for good governance, transparency, and national development,” he affirmed.
Reaffirming President Tinubu’s commitment to democratic values, Idris stated, “As a foremost democrat, the President is fully committed to protecting the constitutionally guaranteed rights of all Nigerians and encourages constructive criticism and healthy opposition, as they play a vital role in strengthening our democratic framework
