Nigeria unveils largest indigenous attack drones, bombs in Africa

The Nigerian Military, in partnership with Briech UAS, has launched the first and largest indigenous attack drones and bombs in Africa, marking a significant milestone in the country’s defence technology advancement.
During the unveiling at Briech UAS headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa hailed the development as a crucial step toward self-reliance and enhanced national security.
He emphasized that these drones would bolster intelligence gathering and provide a strategic advantage in countering security threats.
“These force multipliers will play a vital role in enhancing our military’s effectiveness, especially in a world where acquiring advanced military hardware from foreign sources is increasingly complex,” Musa stated.
Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, also highlighted the importance of supporting local innovations, revealing that some of these technologies had already been deployed in Plateau to assist security forces in tackling insurgency.
Briech UAS Chairman, Dr. Bright Echefu, noted that insurgent groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP had been using commercial drones for reconnaissance and attacks, underscoring the need for Nigeria to develop its own advanced combat drones to maintain security superiority.
