Grace Ike-led NUJ FCT Council confirms Ebriku, Eyah as Ex-Officio members

The Grace Ike-led executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has officially confirmed seasoned journalists Comrade Ebriku John Friday and Comrade Ikechukwu Eyah as Ex-Officio 1 and 2 of the council respectively.
The confirmation was announced during the NUJ FCT Congress held on Saturday, 12 April 2025, in Abuja, with members unanimously endorsing their appointments in recognition of their commitment and contributions to the journalism profession.
Ebriku John Friday, a prominent Abuja-based journalist, hails from Yala in Cross River State. With a distinguished career spanning years in the media, Ebriku made his mark at Leadership Newspaper, where he held various editorial and managerial positions. He also served as Special Assistant on Media to former Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade.
Currently, Ebriku contributes to The Leader NG and serves as the editor of the NUJ FCT Council’s online platform. His confirmation as Ex-Officio is widely seen as a testament to his dedication to journalistic excellence and union service.
Also confirmed is Comrade Ikechukwu Eyah, a respected information officer and unionist. Eyah, who serves as Chief Information and Public Relations Officer at the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, is a native of Isi-Ugwu, Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Eyah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Media Arts from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (2005), a Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Leadership Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, and is currently pursuing an MPhil in the same field. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abuja Chapter, and has served the NUJ Information Chapel as Secretary (2015–2018) and Chairman (2018–2024).
Their appointments reinforce the NUJ FCT Council’s commitment to harnessing the expertise of its members in advancing the union’s objectives and the journalism profession at large.
