Akpabio hails Okpebholo’s Supreme Court verdict, says it’s victory for democracy in Edo
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on his victory at the Supreme Court, which upheld him as the duly elected candidate in the September 2024 governorship election.
In a personally signed statement, Akpabio described the judgment as a triumph for democracy and a reflection of the people’s will.
According to the Senate President, the apex court’s verdict confirms the choice of the majority of Edo people and validates that the election was transparent, free, and fair. He stated, “The declaration by the Supreme Court in favour of Senator Okpebholo against Mr Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party has proven that elections are won at the ballot by candidates connected to the grassroots.”
Akpabio commended Edo residents for embracing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and electing Okpebholo, whose leadership in the past seven months he said has been commendable. He expressed confidence that the governor would perform excellently in his full four-year term.
He added, “This milestone affirms Governor Okpebholo’s mandate and paves the way for him to continue delivering exceptional service to the people of Edo State.”
Akpabio also assured the governor of the Senate’s support in ensuring the state’s development. He concluded by wishing Okpebholo success in his administration and looked forward to a strong working relationship.
The congratulatory message was released through Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon Eseme Eyiboh.
