Akume reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to education as cornerstone of administration
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has restated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to raising the standard of education in Nigeria, describing it as the cornerstone of his administration.
Akume made the remarks in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim (ESOCS), led by its Prelate, His Most Eminence Baba Aladura David Bob-Manuel.
He recalled that as Governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu championed reforms in the education sector, including the return of missionary schools to their original owners despite resistance, to ensure better management. The SGF further highlighted the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designed to provide interest-free loans to students and expand access to higher education nationwide.
The SGF commended the role of religious bodies in education, healthcare provision, and nation-building, stressing the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with faith-based organisations to promote peace, unity, and development.
In his remarks, Baba Aladura Bob-Manuel pledged the unwavering support of ESOCS to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring the government of the church’s readiness to collaborate in nation-building. He also congratulated the President on his election and Senator Akume on his appointment as SGF.
The highlight of the courtesy visit was the presentation of centenary souvenirs to the SGF in celebration of ESOCS’s 100 years of ministry. Special prayers were also offered for President Tinubu, the SGF, and the nation for peace, unity, and sustainable development.
