The residents of Kaido Sabo are trapped in a dire situation.
Despite being located near Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, they lack access to essential necessities such as clean water, healthcare, and adequate education. This neglect has created a cycle of suffering and hardship for the entire community.
The most immediate threat is the severe water shortage. With no access to clean drinking water, residents are forced to use a nearby stream contaminated with disease-causing agents. A borehole constructed by the FCT administration failed after just one week, leaving the community in despair.
A local resident heartbreakingly reveals the human cost of this crisis, citing a high rate of miscarriages and deaths among pregnant women, with as many as 300 to 456 fatalities each month. She recounts the tragic death of her sister, who suffered from severe stomach pain and internal bleeding, symptoms believed to have been caused by an infection from the polluted water.
The community’s healthcare situation is equally grim. A poorly constructed primary health center, built with substandard materials and lacking proper equipment, stands as a symbol of failed promises. With no local medical care, residents must endure a long and difficult journey on bad roads to seek help in Gwagwalada.
Education is also severely neglected. The only primary school, Kaida Sabo Community Primary School, is in a state of disrepair with collapsed classrooms.
This forces students to learn in dangerous and overcrowded conditions, with multiple grade levels being crammed into the only two usable classrooms. The poor state of these facilities denies children a proper learning environment and further limits their future prospects.
