Mourinho faces backlash, Hit with Four-Game suspension and £35,194 Fine
Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho has been handed a four-game ban and fined over 35,000 pounds for comments made following Monday’s Istanbul derby against local rivals Galatasaray.
Mourinho was accused by Galatasaray of making racist remarks after the 0-0 draw. However, Fenerbahce issued a statement on Tuesday defending their manager, claiming his comments were taken out of context.
The match was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, as both clubs requested a foreign official for the derby. However, the fourth official was Turkish, and Mourinho once again criticised Turkish referees during his post-match news conference.
The Portuguese coach revealed that he had visited the referee’s dressing room after the game and told the fourth official that if he had been the referee, the match would have been a disaster.
