Tinubu names Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as new Accountant General amidst economic reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation.
This appointment took effect on December 10, 2024, following the commencement of Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein’s pre-retirement leave. Dr. Madein is set to retire officially on March 7, 2025.
Ogunjimi, born on November 27, 1967, in Lagos State, brings over three decades of experience in financial management across both public and private sectors. He holds a degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and master’s degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Accounting at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
Professionally, Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. His career highlights include serving as Director of Funds at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He has also worked with prominent institutions such as the Nigerian Navy Headquarters and the Nigerian Ports Authority.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to improve treasury operations and drive economic reforms, citing his extensive experience and competence.
