Seven killed in another tanker explosion in Niger State
No fewer than seven persons were killed in another explosion of petroleum tanker containing PMS in Karamin Rami village of Mashegu Local Council, Niger State. The incident happened on Thursday, March 4, 2025, at about 6:30 p.m.
According to a statement issued to journalists in Minna by the Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Arah, the incident occurred as a tanker truck attempted to maneuver its way due to bad roads without shoulders and fell down, causing its content (PMS) to flow into a nearby stream where dry-season farmers were working on their rice fields.
The statement added that the tanker’s content came in contact with the farmers’ water pump, which was pumping water, and caught fire. The fire then spread back to the tanker, leading to an explosion.
It noted that the inferno returned to the farmland through the already contaminated stream water, burning some of the farmers and destroying the entire rice field, including fruit vegetation.
The statement revealed that seven lives were lost, with one person injured.
The names of the deceased are Rafiatu Sahabi, Ramlat Shehu, Rashida Abdullahi, Raliya Abdulrahman, Zainab Ahmed, Zuwaira Idrisu, Maryam A. Nura while Maimuna Isah is the injured person.
Meanwhile, the injured woman has been receiving treatment at Saho Rami Primary Health Care.
