FG restates commitment to Economic Growth, backs Tinubu’s reforms
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its strong commitment to driving sustainable economic and social policies aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
This assurance was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, during a courtesy visit from the Governing Council of the Nigeria Economic Society (NES), led by its President, Professor Adeola Adenikinju, in Abuja.
Senator Akume praised the bold economic steps taken under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors has greatly contributed to steering the country’s economy in a positive direction.
According to him, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu brings a wealth of experience to the table, having served with distinction in both the private and public sectors. His unique blend of experience has been instrumental in guiding our nation to its current economic trajectory, a growth rate that even some of the world’s most advanced economies are struggling to match. The President’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy is a bold move with far-reaching positive consequences for the nation’s economic health.”
He added that while such decisions may come with immediate effects, their long-term benefits would significantly improve the well-being of Nigerians.
Earlier in his remarks, Professor Adeola Adenikinju commended the Tinubu administration for its courageous economic reforms over the past two years. He noted that these reforms have touched every area of the economy, including the fiscal, monetary, and real sectors.
Professor Adenikinju further applauded initiatives such as the removal of petroleum subsidies, the unification of exchange rates, fiscal policy and tax reforms, and adjustments in electricity tariffs, describing them as important steps toward economic stability.
He, however, appealed to the President to consider appointing experienced and dynamic economic professionals to head sensitive economic agencies in order to achieve better results.
The statement was signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, on April 29, 2025.
