Bandits abduct eight worshippers in Kebbi State

A renewed wave of insecurity has struck Kebbi State, as bandits attacked Zagami village in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area for the second time in two days, abducting eight Christian worshippers.
In response, the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, promptly convened a high-level security meeting with military and security chiefs. Following consultations with the Nigerian Army High Command, approval has been secured for the establishment of a Military Forward Operating Base in Zagami, the scene of the latest incident.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government Council, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, addressed journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday after the emergency meeting. He disclosed that security operatives were intensifying efforts to trace the kidnappers and rescue the abducted individuals.
As part of immediate measures to reinforce security in the area, Governor Idris has also facilitated the establishment of Mobile Police Camps in Dan-Umaru and Mai-rai-rai villages. The move aims to strengthen local security and deter further attacks.
Recounting the attack, Mr Bena stated that the victims were attending a church service when news spread that armed bandits had entered the community. In the ensuing panic, many fled the service, but eight worshippers were captured before they could escape.
The Governor, who serves as the Chief Security Officer of the state, was immediately briefed and took swift action to stabilise the situation. Security personnel are currently combing the area as part of a coordinated rescue operation, while efforts continue to prevent any escalation of violence in the region.
