Super Eagles edge Jamaica on penalties to lift 2025 Unity Cup in London
The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged victorious in the 2025 Unity Cup on Saturday, narrowly defeating Jamaica 5–4 on penalties following a pulsating 2–2 draw in regular time.
The keenly contested final, held at the Brentford Community Stadium in London, saw Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze find the net for Nigeria. Both sides scored in each half, setting the stage for a dramatic shootout that ultimately favoured the West Africans.
The Unity Cup, which ran from 27 to 31 May, made a highly anticipated return after a 21-year absence. It brought together four teams, Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, in a celebration of football, culture, and shared heritage. The tournament was conceived to reinforce bonds among the African and Caribbean diasporas in the United Kingdom.
This year’s edition held particular symbolic value, underlining the significance of unity, cultural exchange, and the role of sport in diplomacy. The Super Eagles’ triumph marks a proud moment for Nigerian football supporters in the UK and across the globe.
