2025 Hajj: Nigerian Pilgrims relocated after Makkah Hotel fire
A fire incident on Saturday at a hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, temporarily displaced 484 Nigerian pilgrims, though no casualties were recorded. The affected pilgrims were safely in Mina observing their Hajj rites when the blaze broke out.
The fire, which occurred around 12:00 p.m. local time at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel on Shari Mansur Street, was swiftly contained following immediate intervention by Saudi emergency services and hotel management.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirmed the development in a statement, adding that Chairman Professor Abdullahi Saleh visited the scene to assess the damage and ensure arrangements for the pilgrims’ welfare.
Professor Saleh directed the immediate relocation of the affected pilgrims to alternative accommodations and extended words of encouragement, thanking Allah that no life was lost. He assured them of NAHCON’s full support throughout the remainder of their pilgrimage.
The commission commended the prompt and coordinated efforts of Saudi emergency responders and hotel staff in controlling the situation. The pilgrims, who were guests of six Nigerian private tour operator companies, are now safe, with plans in place to minimise any disruption to their Hajj activities.
NAHCON reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of Nigerian pilgrims, while the incident underscored the value of emergency preparedness and swift response in averting tragedy.
