Tears as Liverpool Star Diogo Jota, Brother are laid to rest in Portugal
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, were laid to rest on Saturday following their tragic deaths in a car crash in Spain.
The funeral service was held at Igreja Matriz Church in Gondomar, Portugal, where Jota had a home. It was an emotional gathering as family, friends, and football colleagues came together to pay their final respects.
In attendance were players and staff from Liverpool Football Club, as well as Portugal national team manager Roberto Martinez. Prominent Portuguese internationals including Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias, alongside Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, were also present to honour the late brothers.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was seen carrying a red floral tribute shaped like a football jersey with Jota’s No. 20 boldly displayed in white. Another teammate, Andrew Robertson, carried a similar arrangement with the No. 30, representing André Silva, who played for Portuguese side Penafiel.
It was a solemn and painful moment for the football world and for Portugal as the community mourned the loss of two young lives filled with promise.
