ABUMET inspires youth creativity through Graffiti Art Competition
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative on youth empowerment, Julius Berger’s aluminium and glass solutions subsidiary, ABUMET Nigeria Limited, has organised a youth development programme designed to promote creativity and innovation among young Nigerians.
The event, which focused on education and human capital development, marked the company’s first-ever Graffiti Art Competition in Abuja. The contest provided university students with a platform to express their artistic flair while integrating elements that reflect ABUMET’s brand identity, such as aluminium profiles, façades, and the spirit of craftsmanship.
Over a two-day period, participants transformed plain shipping containers into striking works of art, displaying originality, technical skill, and imagination.
Entries were assessed by a panel of seasoned local artists based on creativity, originality, thematic relevance, execution, and overall visual impact.
At the end of the competition, Johaness emerged as the overall winner, receiving a ₦1 million cash prize. Zaphaniel and Boluwatife secured second and third positions, winning ₦500,000 and ₦300,000, respectively.
In line with ABUMET’s culture of recognising effort and excellence, all other contestants received consolation prizes in appreciation of their creativity and participation.
Speaking during the prize presentation ceremony, the General Manager of ABUMET, Mr Diemo Schillack, described the competition as a reflection of the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent, promoting creativity, and empowering future leaders.
“The ABUMET Graffiti Art Competition underscores our belief in investing in young people. We must continue such initiatives to sustain the impact and build on the momentum created,” Schillack said.
He added that the company’s success in delivering high-quality projects across Nigeria inspired its decision to extend its impact beyond construction by supporting youth development through creative platforms.
“Our mission is to empower young talents, helping them discover and develop their potential—not only for their own advancement but also for the good of society,” he stated.
Some of the contestants expressed their gratitude to ABUMET for providing an avenue to showcase their creativity, while expressing hope that the competition would become an annual event.
