Kaduna State University ASUU resumes Indefinite Strike over unresolved issues
The Kaduna State University (KASU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has resumed an indefinite strike following the Kaduna State Government’s failure to meet previously agreed terms.
The strike, which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025, was approved by the union’s National Executive Council after a request from the local congress.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Peter Adamu, Chairman of ASUU-KASU, and Dr. Peter Waziri, the union’s Secretary, highlighted several unresolved issues that led to the industrial action. These include unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, outstanding Earned Academic Allowances dating back to 2016, promotion arrears, and unpaid allowances for supervising the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme.
Additional grievances include the non-payment of entitlements for deceased members, failure to remit pension deductions from 2009 to 2019, non-implementation of wage awards of 25% and 35%, and concerns over the erosion of university autonomy.
“The strike became inevitable due to a breach of trust and the state government’s failure to fulfil its commitments,” the union stated.
ASUU-KASU has made it clear that the strike will continue indefinitely until the state government addresses these outstanding issues.
