Kwara Police launch investigation into Officers accused of extorting motorists
The Kwara State Police Command has begun an investigation into allegations that some of its officers were involved in extorting money from motorists along a highway in the state.
The move followed a viral video showing police officers allegedly collecting cash from travellers along the Osi–Eruku road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, saying the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a thorough probe into the allegations.
According to her, the command is committed to maintaining discipline within the force and will not tolerate any form of misconduct. “Any officer found guilty after investigation will face serious disciplinary action,” she said.
Ejire-Adeyemi urged residents to report similar cases and provide evidence where possible to help the police clean up the system.
The statement added that the Kwara Police Command remains focused on ensuring public safety and restoring confidence in law enforcement across the state.
