NiMet issues Three-Day thunderstorm, rainfall alert across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather forecast, warning of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across various parts of the country between Sunday and Tuesday.
According to the advisory, thunderstorms are expected to sweep through several northern states on Sunday, with Taraba and Adamawa among the areas predicted to experience early storms, followed by widespread rainfall in the region later in the day.
The North-Central zone will begin with cloudy conditions before giving way to thunderstorms and rainfall by afternoon and evening hours. The southern part of the country is also expected to witness rain showers affecting multiple states as the day progresses.
The forecast extends to Monday and Tuesday, with thunderstorms and rain predicted to hit Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, and other parts of the North, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa.
NiMet has advised residents to adopt precautionary measures during the period, including disconnecting electrical appliances during storms and avoiding shelter under tall trees to prevent lightning strikes.
Airline operators have also been urged to stay updated with the latest airport-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight scheduling and operations.
The agency further cautioned Nigerians to remain vigilant as strong winds are likely to precede the rainfall in some areas, urging the public to stay alert to weather updates to protect lives and property.
