DStv slashes Decoder price by 40% to win back lost subscribers

Pay-TV giant, MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DStv, has announced a 40% reduction in the price of its decoder starting from November 1, 2025, as part of a major plan to attract back millions of customers who have left the platform in recent months.

The company revealed that the price slash will affect both new DStv HD decoders and combo offers that include dish installation. This move comes after a sharp drop in active subscriptions, following months of complaints from customers over high tariffs and stiff competition from cheaper online streaming services.

In a statement released on Thursday, MultiChoice said the new pricing strategy is aimed at “making quality entertainment more affordable and accessible to every Nigerian household.”

“We have listened to our customers and are taking bold steps to reward their loyalty. This reduction will allow more families to reconnect with their favorite DStv channels at a pocket-friendly rate,” the company said.

Industry analysts see the price cut as a strategic attempt to regain market dominance, especially after many subscribers reportedly switched to other platforms such as Netflix, Showmax, and StarTimes due to cost concerns.

A tech analyst, Emeka Adesina, described the move as “a smart comeback plan,” noting that affordability has been one of DStv’s biggest challenges in recent years. “If they combine this price slash with better customer service and flexible subscription options, they could bounce back strongly,” he added.

The new offer is expected to take effect nationwide on November 1, and the company says customers can purchase the discounted decoders at all accredited DStv outlets and major electronic stores across Nigeria.

With the festive season approaching, many viewers see the price cut as good news a chance to enjoy live sports, local movies, and global entertainment without breaking the bank.
