Security tightened as DSS-arrested suspects appear in Plateau Court

Proceedings resumed on Thursday at the Plateau State High Court as the trial of four suspects linked to the Anguwan Rukuba killings continued under tight security in Jos North Local Government Area.

The defendants, arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), were brought to court at about 9 a.m., with a heavy security presence deployed around the premises amid heightened public interest in the case.

The trial follows the March 2026 attack in Anguwan Rukuba, which left more than 30 people dead and triggered widespread outrage across Plateau State.

The Plateau State Government has filed multiple charges against the suspects, including criminal conspiracy, terrorism, culpable homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.

At an earlier sitting, the court adjourned proceedings to enable the defendants secure proper legal representation after their initial arraignment could not proceed due to the absence of defence counsel.

Thursday’s session marks the continuation of what is expected to be a closely watched trial, given the scale of the violence and its implications for security in the region.
