Rivers Administrator reaffirms commitment to Workers’ Welfare on May Day

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the Administrator of Rivers State, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare and maintaining industrial peace in the state.
Ibas made this known during a state-wide broadcast on Thursday in Port Harcourt, as part of activities to mark this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
He commended the invaluable contributions of workers to the progress of both the state and the country. The administrator praised their unwavering commitment, resilience, and sense of duty, especially in the face of economic and social challenges.
Highlighting several measures taken to improve the welfare of government employees, Ibas listed prompt payment of salaries and pensions, resolution of lingering salary-related disputes, and the implementation of a minimum wage for both state and local government workers.
He further disclosed ongoing plans to review the contributory pension scheme to address the concerns of workers and resolve existing funding gaps. In addition, Ibas announced the introduction of a two-week leadership training programme for civil servants, designed to strengthen capacity, professionalism, and effective service delivery.
The Rivers administrator assured the workforce that their wellbeing remained a top priority for his government. He stressed the importance of their role in rebuilding public trust and ensuring the efficient operation of government services and the state’s economy.
