Lagos Lawmakers reject Obasa as Speaker (Video)

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have dismissed Mudashiru Obasa’s claim that he remains the Speaker, insisting that Mojisola Meranda remains their leader.
Obasa, who was impeached on 13 January, returned to the Assembly complex today, 27 February, accompanied by security operatives. His return coincides with the recent withdrawal of security aides assigned to Speaker Meranda.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Stephen Ogundipe, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1, called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos to intervene and resolve the ongoing leadership crisis.
“Our leaders have urged us to remain calm and composed, but we are astonished by today’s developments,” Ogundipe said.
“We will not take the law into our own hands, just as we have advised the Assembly staff not to. However, we represent various constituencies, and our mandates must be upheld. Rather than this spectacle we are witnessing, the leadership should engage with us constructively.
“We have remained law-abiding and have not acted against the state, but as elected representatives, we deserve respect and recognition. I appeal to our party leadership—this situation cannot be allowed to persist.”
